AI-RDN+

About The Project

Artificial Intelligence Researcher Development Network Plus (AI.RDN+) is exploring and shaping the use of publicly available AI tools in doctoral research. As a four-year, £3.4m Research England funded project, AI.RDN+ will capture in-depth understanding of knowledge and practice, reward creativity and innovation, and translate this knowledge into a range of resources to build AI confidence, innovation, responsible use and opportunity maximisation.

Working with our partners and collaborators, AI.RDN+ will deliver these aims through three inter-related workstreams.

1

AI.RDN+ will capture understanding, innovation, decision-making and the challenges that working with publicly available AI tools 'on the ground' involves. To achieve this, AI.RDN+ will work across a range of universities, disciplines and fields of research to consult with doctoral researchers, supervisors, examiners, graduate schools and researcher developers. In doing so, this consultation will assimilate change as it happens and capture a diversity of voices and perspectives.

2

AI.RDN+ will identify, support and reward examples of AI innovation and challenge management across the terrain of doctoral research. These will be used to create case studies of change, innovation, problem-solving, responsible use, employer collaboration, and engagement and impact.

3

AI.RDN+ will translate this knowledge and practice into information, resources, training and skills and career development opportunities to deliver the understanding and resources needed to innovate and drive forward the responsible use of publicly available AI tools in doctoral research.

AI.RDN+ is exceptional in addressing understanding and practice of the unquestionable significance of publicly available AI tools for a critical category of UK researchers. By driving forward the uptake, application and generalisation of AI, and by deepening knowledge and skills across all doctoral stakeholders, AI.RDN+ will not just provide foundation resources for all stakeholders to accelerate responsible uptake and innovation. AI.RDN+ will also prepare doctoral researchers to become leaders in the adoption of AI tools and the education of future generations of scholars and researchers.
